Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes when you vote for something on a TV show? The production company FremantleMedia, which is behind the successful TV show Masked Singer, uses SMS to collect votes for their program.
How does voting via SMS work?
Many of us probably have participated in the voting process in various TV programs such as Eurovision Song Contest. But perhaps we haven't really thought about how it works behind the scenes – until we need a similar solution ourselves.
Voting for an option may seem simple but behind the scenes it can be a bit more complicated as there are several factors to consider.

Since there are several moving parts during a TV program, seconds are often precious for a production company. That's why FreMantle reached out to us to explore the possibility of managing the voting process for Masked Singer via SMS.
Who is FreMantle and what does this solve for them?
Fremantle is a creative production company that produces some of Sweden's biggest TV shows such as Idol, Masked Singer, Talang, Farmer Wants a Wife, Who Lives Here, and Grand Designs Sweden.
They are one of the world's largest production companies and a global content producer that delivers over 12,000 hours of entertainment around the world every year.
FreMantle contacted us at the end of the season of the TV show Masked Singer, as their existing solution had some issues. They were in urgent need of a voting system for the remaining episodes to be recorded. So we discussed what such a solution might look like, what their needs were, and how 46elks API could enable them to vote via SMS.

How can I create a similar solution?
If you can code, it is possible to build a solution similar to the one Fremantle used. What you need is to create an 46elks account, take a look at our documentation to understand how two-way SMS works, write code to send out SMS and receive them, and a server. Then you're free to start voting!
